EXTRA! EXTRA!

Rationale
I tried to capture the essence of the “gossip” tone to explain the people present during Hurricane Katrina. FEMA was mentioned several times in the articles, but at this point, they weren't mentioned negatively, but in a more positive manner. This is because no one had a lot of correct information about the storm quite yet, just rumors. The rumors that were mentioned in the articles, that played a huge part in the “misleading information” was the terrorists. Yes, the country was still stirred up about 9/11, but we took a step too far and made crazy assumptions that every non-Caucasian person that was on the streets of New Orleans were either said, suspected, or looked upon as a terrorist or foreign. I wanted to show the difference between races in this situation. This includes the “looting versus taking” and how lots of colored people were taken to jails (Zeitoun). The audience is intended for people in the United States who don’t know a lot about the storm and this [tabloid] is the first thing they pick up. I structured this tabloid to be obnoxious (in terms of color) so more people would notice it. The language used in the tabloid is “flashy” and over exaggerated, completed with exclamation points, underlining, italics, etc.
